The Season Ends for our Team.
I have decided to dedicate this column to the weather and what we are experiencing this year in the GTA. For nothing else but to update the page and to get some words out of my system.
This is the fourth on-ice session we have had to cancel this season. I cannot remember if this has ever happened before. It's not because people or players do not want to attend, it is truthfully that it is just not safe for them to travel. What is a coach to do?
What's that? What about the title? Okay, I'll address that, without melancholy.
It has been a FULL three days after the last game of our playoffs against Orangeville. I am not going to use this forum to harp on officials or even to try and paint our team as victims. That would be too easy.
I am not happy about the way our LLFHL season came to an end, we deserved better but, I have to accept the fact that sometimes things are just not meant to be. For those keeping score, we lost our second game of the series, 3-2 and I wish Orangeville all the luck in the world against Brampton. We have a new goal moving forward to next season. I'll just keep it to myself for now.
The title is a bit deceptive, I will admit. Our season is not over per se, we have the Brampton tournament in less than two weeks and of course the Provincial Championships in April to look forward to.
That is our focus and we should set these two events clearly in our sights and raise the bar of preparation in order to be fully ready for these prestigious games.
There is plenty to get excited about and plenty to be proud of at this point in the season.
There have been disappointments and there have been triumphs, I guess you could say there was something for everyone. It certainly was NOT boring.
I will go into greater detail in another blog but, this will be a bittersweet time for me as two players I have come to know, rely on and quite simply love, will be leaving after the last buzzer on our season has sounded.
They will not be eligible to return to our team next year but, they will be embarking upon a greater adventure – the great game of life as an adult.
The team message will be to literally play their hearts out for these players, to make this truly a season to remember. Not just for two or three but, for all involved. That is what team sport does, it creates life-long friendships and memories that will bring a smile to their faces long after the arena has gone dark.
I hope they remember me and more importantly this season.
No frowns, just an eye to the next couple of weeks and an anticipation of greatness.
GO STORM GO!!!!
